Summer around Dillon Reservoir

Start a summer morning on the water, the recreation path, or a mountain trail. Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne, and the ski villages each offer a different starting point.

Water, paved paths, and high trails

Dillon Reservoir has two distinct marina shores. Frisco Bay Marina is closest to Main Street and the western recreation path; Dillon Marina sits near the town park and Dillon Amphitheater. The county Recpath follows the reservoir and branches toward Copper, Breckenridge, and Silverthorne, while natural-surface trails climb quickly above the towns into thinner air and exposed weather.

Frisco Bay Marina rents boats and paddling equipment. Dillon has its own marina, waterfront parks, and Dillon Amphitheater. The water remains cold, and wind often strengthens later in the day.

Summit County recreation path

The paved network reaches Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne, Copper, and Breckenridge. The Tenmile Canyon branch climbs from Frisco toward Copper; the Blue River branch continues north through Silverthorne. These routes still include sustained climbs, road crossings, and active construction areas.

Mountain trails

Sapphire Point offers a short overlook above the reservoir. Rainbow Lake begins near Frisco and enters the forest below the Tenmile Range. Higher routes can hold snow well into summer; begin early and leave exposed ridges when storms build.

Where to stay in summer

Frisco combines the marina, Main Street, and central trail access. Dillon is close to waterfront events and the east side of the reservoir. Silverthorne is useful for the Blue River and northern trailheads. Keystone and Copper are quieter between scheduled resort events, while Breckenridge has the county's broadest mix of town life, trails, and summer attractions.

Scenic lifts, bike parks, and resort attractions operate on seasonal calendars. Confirm exact operating dates before traveling to a resort for one of these activities.
